Dear Burt,
I don’t have children or grandchildren of my own, but I thought your report was very telling. We do have some little children in my extended family, and I love the way they are so creative, exploring everything, imagining all kinds of wonderful situations and inventing lovely stories. As soon as they hit school everything changes. I live in the UK, but the situation is about the same as in the USA. Government targets are geared just to passing exams, but take no account of a child’s real talents. It takes a great deal of strength to buck the trend and follow your dreams.
